Lance Kinal
1999 – Present Kinal Construction Co., Findley Lake NY
At this point, he started his own business. The first job was a large remodeling project using two additional carpenters and his oldest son Murl, who had just graduated from High School. The business also did remodeling and house framing for other contractors and developers in Erie including Baldwin Bros., Palermo, Herbstritt and Cass. In 2004 the business emphasis turned local, bringing his energies to Findley Lake where he has lived since 1974. At this point, he bought B & S Electric from Marty Smith, who had owned that business for 30 years. This service business had provided the local people with electrical, plumbing, and heating installation and repairs, as well as performing small and large remodeling projects.
1991 – 1998 Joe Palermo Development, - Erie PA
Assumed the position of Supervisor of Construction and formed a work crew who built custom homes in Erie ranging from 150k to 400k. Other responsibilities included remodeling jobs and maintenance of 200 plus apartments in greater Erie owned by Palermo. Completed the building of homes in the Turnberry subdivision. In addition, he became Supervisor of the Scenery Hill Condominiums project, built by Palermo, and was responsible from ground breaking to completion. This development consisted of construction of two roads, forty townhouses, and seventeen single-family homes. While supervising this job, he was involved in the planning, infrastructure, roads, building the model units, organizing and controlling supplies and subcontractors, and all phases of construction to completion of this approximately 5 million dollar project. While supervising the Scenery Hill development, he also completed several other multi-family dwellings. Following the successful launch of Scenery Hill, he broke ground for the 150 unit apartment and condominium project know as Brookwood Village. Responsibilities were the same as the previous project. By this time, he had completed approximately 300 dwellings from start to finish. Also during this time, he started Port Erie Mechanicals which did plumbing, heating, and electrical subcontracting.
1985 – 1991 Emory & Kinal Builders, - Findley Lake and Sherman NY
Formed between Bryan Emory and Lance Kinal. Became know as the King of the Subcontractors. Work included every phase of construction and remodeling including masonry, plumbing, heating and electrical. Used by many area contractors because of their quality, consistency, and superior work ethic. During this time, completed an addition on the Kinal home, doubling its size.
1980 – 1985 Eaton & Emory Builders, - Findley Lake and Clymer NY
Worked with both Jack Eaton and Dalles Emory learning the construction business from the bottom up. Installed foundations, framing, plumbing, heating systems, electrical work, windows, roofing and siding. Jobs were completed to turn key. The scope of the work included local private and vacation homes in the Findley Lake to Chautauqua NY area and ranged from 50k to 450k in value. He was made a Junior Partner in the company.
1979 Noah Wengerd, Stone Mason & Carpenter, Clymer NY
Employed as a workman and instructed in the finer aspects of both crafts. Built his own house that year.
1975 – 1979 Breeze Publishing Co., North East PA
Did layout for newspapers, posters, ads, and printing of all types. Worked as a darkroom technician responsible for taking the copy from the customers through delivering the printing plates to the press operator. Was instrumental in setting up a second darkroom. Built and installed all copy equipment in this expansion. While employed, constructed bathrooms, shelving and storage areas for the business.
1974 Calfisch Lumber Co., Clymer NY
From age 18 -19, worked in sawmill stacking hand made planks which were sold for bowling alleys lanes.
1970 – 1974 Helms Shoe and Luggage Repair, Dayton OH
From age 15 – 18, responsibilities included repairing luggage, belts, shoes, and other leather and durable goods.
Initial Employment – Paper route for 2 years
